We just installed service pack last week and now when I run certain reports
-- and that's many of them, my GP would get the following error -- "Microsoft
Dynamics GP has stopped working. A problem caused by the program to stop
working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a
solution is available."

The only option it gives is "Close program".

This happens when I run both modified and non-modified report.

I've a suspicion that the report dictionaly is corrupted. But, why would
some reports work and some don't. Also, our IT person didn't know to back up
the dictionary and I've quite a few modified reports and don't want to lose
those if we need to restore the reports dictionary.

Help!

Loan,

This sounds effectively like a corrupt reports dictionary. In addition, did
you apply the year end update? If so, you may want to check David Musgrave's
article on the subject at:

http://blogs.msdn.com/developingfordynamicsgp/archive/2009/01/16/microsoft-dynamics-gp-10-0-service-packs-hotfixes-and-payroll-compliance-year-end-updates-may-damage-the-modified-reports-and-forms.aspx

There is a known issue with applying the payroll YE update patch.

We did apply Service Pack 3 which includes YE update so that must be the
cause. Now, that you've pointed out the cause, do you know if we can still
fix it by exporting the modified reports now then reimport them after
restoring the reports dictionary?

Thanks for your help.

Now that the reports dictionary is corrupt, you will not be able to resort to
exporting the customizations. However, if you have an unmodified environment,
say a test environment without SP3, you can export to a package file from
there. You will need to remove your REPORTS.DIC and FORMS.DIC (or any other
third party forms and reports dictionary) from your production environment
before you import the package file.

Mariano,

At first I thought you're giving me some hope. But, no luck, we are small
so we don't have a test environment. Plus, we share the reports dictionary
on the network so that's that.

Thanks for your help.

All is not completely lost at this point. I have been able to export
reports and recreate a damaged report dictionary in the past.

See article 850465 in the GP KB for instructions to try.
