Does anyone know why you cannot dropship a kit? I am using version 10.0.

Drop-ship transactions are for items that are shipped from your vendor
directly to
the customer. The item isn’t received into or sold from your inventory. With
this said, kits are only used to group and sell items directly out of your
inventory.

Look at Assembly items which will give you that functionality.

Assembly items?? It depends on what you purchase from your vendors. Assembly
items will let you drop ship the finished item (assuming you can purchase it
as well as make it) but not drop ship the components.

I guess the original question can be interpreted that way (how to drop ship
components), but I understood it as wanting to drop the item that is
represented by the kit.
