I belive and it will be nice that the System setup password and Exchange rate
password sholud not shere the same password and need to separate from one
another .

I m using GP 8.0 , where I have noticed that the Multicurrency Exchange rate
Maintenance always ask a password which was not the case in previos version
it was based on your access, the problem here is the password which it is
asking is the password which is the system Setup/GP Admin password.

here is the situation when a user of a purchase department has more access
on the purchase and some of in the financial information and need to enter
rate on daily/weekly basis for that he need a sys admin password, but still
he is not a system admin , still sys admin role will be played by somone else
so giving a sys admin password on using daily / frequent basis to change the
exchange rete , looks like putting sys admin and secutiry at risk in many way
offcorse their is user Access limiltation/restriction but still it is not
comfortable.

thanks & regards

In v9.0 there is the "MC Exhange Rate Mtce" window that can be accessed from
Cards --> System --> Exchange Table
that does not ask for the System Password.

Sounds like you are using the "MC Exchange Rate Table Setup" window , then
pressing the [RATES] Button.
This does require the System Password when accessed from
Tools --> Setup --> System --> Exchange Table

I believe this was set this way in 8.0 by accident. In 9.0, the system
password was removed from the window. Your only workaround at this time
would be to have a customization done with Dexterity or update to 9.0.

Have you checked that the password is in fact the system password, rather
than the password against the Mutlicurrency Setup for Exchange Rate
overrides just happens to be be same?

In Ver 9
Tools --> Setup --> Financial --> Mutlicurrency.

Robert,

No, that's not it, it's a password to the MC Exchange Rate Maintenance
window itself.

On 9.0, it's not there anymore.

Possibly, however, if you can set that to "Use Rates without adding to
table" then the user could enter the rate in this window and it won't force
you to enter it in the Maintenance window. It isn't entered in the system
then "on the fly" but at least that would get you by the system password.
